Sapadere Canyon, Alanya
Sapadere Canyon is located within the borders of Sapadere Village, 40 km northeast of Alanya district of Antalya. The karst-formed canyon reaches 360 meters in length and 400 meters in height. Chemical weathering of limestone blocks was effective in the formation of the canyon.
At the point where Sapadere leaves the canyon, the bottom of the canyon is covered by a roaring stream. From this point, in order to pass to the inner part of the canyon, one enters the walking path (wooden bridge) built on the side walls in harmony with nature and fixed with steel supports.
Sapadere Waterfall , which welcomes the visitors about 300 meters ahead after passing over the water flowing at the bottom , is one of the most magnificent points of the canyon. The giant cauldron (natural pool or pond) formed naturally at the point where the waterfall spills is a natural wonder where those who want to cool off in the summer can swim.
With the efforts of the Alanya District Governor’s Office, the canyon, known only to the local people until recently, has been transformed into a touristic region worth seeing. The country casino, walking path and picnic areas built at the entrance of the canyon host hundreds of people every year.
Many of those who visit the canyon add the water mill and silk weaving workshop in Sapadere Village to their routes. In the spring, the waterfall in the canyon, where the water level rises with the effect of the snow that starts to melt in the highlands, flows very strongly.
The surrounding restaurants offer locally grown trout. It is a unique feeling to eat, breathe and experience the magnificent atmosphere in the gazebos by the water.
