0

Kaş , one of the most important tourism centers of the Mediterranean coastline , is the westernmost district of Antalya. Seydikemer, which stretches to the Fethiye district of Muğla in the west of Kaş, which is 190 km away from the city center of Antalya , is surrounded by Elmalı, which is famous for its highlands, to the north, and Demre to the east.

There are dozens of ancient cities, untouched coves, beaches, cultural heritage and natural beauty on the coastline, which starts from Kaş and stretches westward along the Mediterranean coast to Kalkan and Fethiye. The Kaş-Kalkan-Fethiye route is also perfect for those who want to tour the Mediterranean by car.

The geography, interspersed with the ancient cities of the legendary Lycian Civilization, which starts from Antalya Phaselis and extends to Fethiye, is one of the most interesting and unique coastlines in the world. It is home to both magnificent beaches, rare ancient cities and ruins, and magnificent villages and towns.

We don’t usually like this route because of its winding roads, but abroad, all such routes have a name ( Great Ocean Road , Amalfi Drive …) and tourists flock all over the world just to pass and see such roads.

A holiday route Do not rush the route between Kaş and Fethiye, but if you still do not have much time, I have listed the places you can see during the day on this route.

Places to Visit in Kas and Fethiye

1. Phellos Ancient City

Phellos Ancient City is located 12 km north of Kaş town center and 2 km away from Çukurbağ Village. Don’t look at what I put in the first place, I started writing my blog post from the closest places to Kaş. Visit it if you have time, but it’s a bit of a reverse. This is on the list of places to visit in Kaş, but if you are going to leave Kaş and go to Fethiye, there are much more beautiful places to see on the way.

The ancient city, which was built on a ridge that dominates a mountainous region, was one of the most important settlements of the period in the 4th century BC. Among the ruins that have survived to the present day in the ancient city, there are sarcophagus type tombs and house-type tombs carved into the rocks surrounded by walls at the highest point of the hill.

The bull relief of Phellos, which means stony country, is one of the most original examples of the sarcophagus type, with the rich reliefs on the inner surface and the outside of the wall surrounding the city. It can be climbed to watch the magnificent view of the Kas coasts.

Visiting hours of Phellos Ancient City are 08.00-19.00 in summer (April 1 – October 1), 08.30-17.30 in winter (October 1 – April 1). The ancient city is open to visitors 7 days a week. Phellos Ancient City entrance fee is 14TL. Museum Card is valid.

2. Kaputas Beach

Kaputaş Beach must be the most attractive beach of the Mediterranean coastline. It is located between Kaş and Kalkan, 7 km from Kalkan. Kaputaş Beach, which is also used in promotional materials of Turkey in foreign countries, with its turquoise-colored sea and unique view that you cannot take your eyes off, is reached by descending nearly two hundred steps.

Entrance to Kaputaş Beach is free with its golden sandy beach and magnificent view. Those who want to take advantage of the facilities such as umbrellas and sun loungers can rent the facility on the beach by paying a fee. While following the Kaş-Fethiye route, you can only take pictures and move on to Kalkan. Be careful as there will be many parked cars around the road. Try to leave early in the morning.

Located near Kaputaş Beach and discovered in 1972, the Blue Cave is 18 km from Kaş. The 50-meter-long cave is 40 meters wide and 15 meters high. Due to its narrow entrance, the cave, where the sun’s rays reflecting from the sea bottom creates enormous light plays, can be reached by boats departing from Kaş and Kalkan.

Kalkan is the shining star of the Mediterranean geography in recent years. Just as Alaçatı became different and famous in the Aegean, a similar development took place in Kalkan on the Mediterranean coast. The British, who were struck by the magnificent beauty of Kalkan many years ago, attracted people from many countries of the world here.

Kalkan is not only a place to be seen, but also a holiday destination in itself. You need to spare 2 hours to visit Kalkan bazaar, harbor and beach. The streets with two-storey houses and cafes and venues on the lower floors are very sweet. There are very interesting shops in the streets decorated with bougainvillea and geraniums.

After visiting the Kalkan bazaar, head towards the port, then walk towards the harbor breakwater and the lighthouse and have a look at Kalkan from the opposite side. Kalkan public beach is sparkling and exquisite. Its water is cool because of the springs from the mountains, but it is terrific. If you have time, you can hang out here for a while. The beach is owned by the municipality. Prices are considered reasonable.
